How?

Fag, fairy, flower, nancy, pansy. These are just a few of the gay slurs that people throughout history have come up with. They are meant to express disdain over our "chosen lifestyle." It gives no regard over the grief it inflicts upon the person it is directed at. They are hurled with appalling animosity that it makes one wonder how can anyone possess that much hate towards a group of people.

Choice: defined as the right, power, or opportunity to choose (http://www.dictionary.com). The last thing I think of before hitting the sack is what to wear to work the following day. First thought on my mind when waking up is what to wear that day. After hitting the shower, I am faced with a crucial decision: what to wear. After rummaging through my entire closet in what seems as an eternity, I finally pick out an outfit for the day's toil. Coming home from work, I am faced yet again with another decision, a daunting one at that: what to have for dinner. Chicken? Beef? Fish? Veggies? Most of the time I end up frying eggs and hotdogs. Easier and much quicker.

Lifestyle: defined as the habits, attitudes, tastes, moral standards, economic level, etc., that together constitute the mode of living of an individual or group (http://www.dictionary.com). On a good day, I get to work out in the gym and burn the copious amounts of carbs and calories that I have happily ingested that day. Some days it's just bleh. There was a time when I turned vegetarian, it lasted for 2 days. I need my meat. Also tried to be a fruitarian for about 2 weeks. My sugar levels spiked to pre-diabetic level. I quit it. Now it's a balance between work outs, veggies and fruits.

Chosen lifestyle: act of choosing to be a vegetarian, fruitarian or whatever diet program there is.

My life: eat, sleep, work, party etc. Everyone else's? The same - in various forms and degree.

Question is, what makes my life inherently wrong? What about feeling sorrow, pain, joy, excitement is unnatural? What about loving a person is perverse? What is it about us that you find abnormal?

There is only one label that I adhere to: Human. You should too. Unlike what others would have us believe, being the way we are is not a choice that you act upon. We are born into it. We are who we are. No label should define who, what, why, when, where, and how we should be other than HUMAN. We all dream and aspire to live this life joyfully and attain fulfillment, even leave a legacy - an imprint that says "I was here."

How we express compassion is the quintessential measure of our humanity. How we love is the expression of compassion. Love is love. It transcends all labels and boundaries we have arbitrarily set. It knows no race, color, religion, creed or any other restriction we establish. Love requires us to defend human dignity - a choice we can either take or ignore. Dignity is our birthright; our defense of it is a Choice. That is the difference.
